오픈소스 지리공간 소프트웨어 분야의 세계 최대 연례 학회인 FOSS4G의 2026년 대회가 일본 히로시마에서 열렸다. 이 글은 학술트랙 구두발표자로 참가한 필자가 8월 31일 워크숍 데이 등록부터 9월 3일 폐막식과 커뮤니티 밋업까지 나흘 동안 대회장과 개최도시에서 기록한 참가기다. 등록·개막·세션·발표·리셉션·갈라디너·클로징 패널·폐막식으로 이어지는 대회 진행과, 그 사이에 놓인 개최도시 히로시마의 공간 구조를 함께 정리했다. 학회 프로그램과 개최도시가 분리되지 않는다는 점이 이 대회의 가장 큰 특징이었다.
대회 기간에 촬영한 현장 영상이다. 본회의장과 평화기념공원·원폭돔·도심 축제, 갈라디너, 히로시마성과 폐막식을 담았다. 각 영상은 해당 기록 지점에도 함께 배치하였다. 썸네일을 누르면 재생된다.
폐막식이 끝난 9월 3일 저녁, 원폭돔 옆 오리즈루타워 12층 전망층에서 열린 커뮤니티 밋업의 발표 내용이다. 학회 등록과 무관한 무료 행사로, Re:Earth가 후원하고 진행 언어는 영어였다.
MapLibre 프로젝트의 지난 1년을 조직·제품·포맷·3D·커뮤니티의 다섯 축으로 정리한 기조 발표다. 2020년 Mapbox GL JS의 라이선스 변경(오픈소스에서 독점으로)에 대응해 커뮤니티가 포크를 만든 경위를 「License is everything」과 「The little tweet that could…」 두 장으로 되짚는 것으로 시작했다. 라이선스 조항 하나가 생태계 전체의 향방을 바꾼다는 것, 그리고 그 대응이 트윗 한 줄에서 출발했다는 것이 이 프로젝트의 출발점이다.
MapLibre Native를 Rust GUI 툴킷 Slint에 결합하는 maplibre-native-slint 작업을 하며 겪은 일을 오픈소스 거버넌스의 문제로 정리한 발표다. 코드를 쓰는 일보다 그 코드를 누가 어떤 절차로 받아들이고 유지할 것인지를 정하는 일이 훨씬 어렵다는 것이 요지다. 앞선 발표에서 설명한 재단 구조·기술운영위원회의 존재 이유를 기여자 관점에서 다시 확인시켜 주는 순서였다.
음악의 주파수 성분에 맞춰 도시의 건물이 실시간으로 오르내리는 데모다. 지도를 정보 전달 매체가 아니라 시청각 표현 매체로 쓰는 시도이며, 벡터타일의 데이터 기반 스타일링을 어디까지 밀어붙일 수 있는지 보여 준다.
오픈데이터 위에 올린 무료 공개 서비스를 소개하는 순서였다. 키 발급도 계정도 필요 없이 MapLibre 스타일에 바로 붙일 수 있다는 점이 핵심이다.
정리 근거 — 현장 촬영 사진(19:04~20:09) 및 발표자료 「2026-09 MapLibre @ FOSS4G JP Meetup」(Yuri Astrakhan, CC BY 2.0, 49장). 발표 중 언급된 수치와 표현은 슬라이드 문구를 따랐다.
대회장과 개최도시에서 촬영한 슬라이드·비문·안내판의 문자를 옮긴 것이다. 폐막식 결산 슬라이드와 MapLibre 밋업 발표 화면, 그리고 평화기념공원 한국인 원폭희생자 위령비의 국문·일문·영문 비문 전문을 실었다.
제2차 세계대전이 끝날 무렵 히로시마에는 약 10만명의 한국인이 군인 군속 징용공 동원학도 일반시민으로서 살고 있었다. 1945년 8월 6일의 원폭투하로 인해 2만여명의 한국인이 순식간에 소중한 목숨을 빼앗겼다. 히로시마시민 20만 희생자수의 1할에 달하는 한국인 희생자수는 묵과할수 없는 숫자이다.
폭사한 이 희생자는 공양도 제대로 받지 못하고 그 영혼은 오랫동안 구중을 헤메이고 있던차 1970년 4월 10일 재일본대한민국거류민단 히로시마현본부에 의해 비참한 죽음을 강요당한 영혼들을 편히 잠들게 하고 원폭의 참사를 두번다시 되풀이 않기를 희구하면서 평화의 땅 히로시마의 일각에 이 비를 건립했다.
고향산천을 그리면서 이국땅에서 폭사한 혼령들을 위로함은 말할것도 없고 아직까지도 이해해 받지 못하고있는 한국인 피폭자의 현상에 대한 관심을 불러 일으켜 하루라도 빨리 양심있는 지원이 실현되기를 바라마지 않는다. 한국인 희생자위령제는 매년 8월 5일 이 장소에서 거행되고 있다.

第二次世界大戦の終り頃 広島には約十万人の韓国人が 軍人、軍属、徴用工、動員学徒、一般市民として在住していた。1945年8月6日原爆投下により、2万余名の韓国人が一瞬にしてその尊い人命を奪われた。広島市民20万犠牲者の1割に及ぶ韓国人死没者は決して黙過できる数字ではない。
爆死した これら犠牲者は誰からも供養を受けることなく、その魂は永くさまよい続けていたが、1970年4月10日 在日本大韓民国居留民団広島県本部によって悲惨を強いられた同胞の霊を安らげ 原爆の惨事を二度と くり返えさないことを希求しつつ平和の地、広島の一隅に この碑が建立された。
望郷の念にかられつつ異国の地で爆死した霊を慰さめることはもとより 今もなお理解されていない韓国人被爆者の現状に対しての関心を喚起し一日も早い良識ある支援が実現されることを念じる。
韓国人犠牲者慰霊祭は毎年8月5日この場所で挙行されている。

At the end of World War II, there were about 100,000 Koreans living in Hiroshima as soldiers, civilian employees of the army, mobilized students and ordinary citizens. When the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6th, 1945, the sacred lives of more than 20,000 Koreans were suddenly taken from our midst. Of the 200,000 Hiroshima citizens lost to the bomb, approximately 10% were Koreans. This tragic figure cannot be quietly left unnoticed.
The Korean victims were given no funerals or memorial services and their spirits hovered for years unable to pass on to heaven. Then, on April 10, 1970, this monument was erected in this corner of Hiroshima, the City of Peace, by the Hiroshima Prefectural Branch of the Organization of Korean Residents in Japan. This monument was erected in the hope that the souls of our compatriots, brought to misery through force, will be able to rest in peace.
It is also an expression of our demand that the A-bomb tragedy will never be repeated.
We pray, of course, for the solace of those lost souls longing for their homeland, but killed on foreign soil. However, we also pray that the plight of the Korean survivors, poorly understood even today, will emerge into public awareness and that reasonable assistance for these survivors will be provided immediately.
A memorial service for the Korean victims of the bomb is held here every year on August 5th.

HOW THE BUILDING HEIGHTS ARE ANIMATED — Frequency data using fftSize = 32 → 16 bins on the AnalyserNode. Buildings are split into 16 tiers by render_height, each added as a separate fill-extrusion layer. Each frame reads dataArray[i] and updates the fill-extrusion-height of layer 3d-buildings-i. The average amplitude drives changes in the HSL hue and intensity of setLight. Looped continuously via requestAnimationFrame.

The craft challenged the world of Pokémon. The excitement brought about by components such as catching, training, evolving, and trading Pokémon. The longing for the stage of adventure and the friendships nurtured with fellow travelers. Or the impact of the moves we watched with bated breath. Even though it is a virtual world, the excitement felt there is real, and there may be something fundamental to the real world as well. The artists traveled the imaginary field with their craft materials and techniques. Through their works, you will have the pleasure of traveling back and forth between the two stories of Pokémon and craft.

개최지가 학회를 어떻게 규정하는가 — 이번 대회의 나흘이 그 답을 담고 있다.
학술트랙은 93편 투고·72편 채택·52편 정식논문으로 마감됐고, 전량이 ISPRS Archives를 통해 오픈액세스로 영구 공개된다. 발표로 끝나지 않고 인용 가능한 형태로 남긴다는 원칙이 학회 운영 전반에 관철돼 있다. 오픈소스 커뮤니티 행사가 학술적 검증 절차를 별도 트랙으로 유지하는 구조는 이 분야의 성과를 정책·연구 문헌으로 옮기는 통로가 된다.
클로징 패널은 UNDP·UNITAR·UNOOSA·UNHCR 실무자로 구성됐다. 오픈소스 지리공간 도구가 인도적·개발 협력 현장의 실제 업무 수단이 되어 있고, 이들의 관심이 기능이 아니라 역량과 자금 지속성에 있다는 점이 반복해서 확인됐다. 기술 커뮤니티와 국제기구가 같은 자리에서 요구사항을 교환하는 형식 자체가 이 학회의 자산이다.
본회의장인 히로시마 국제회의장은 평화기념자료관과 한 몸을 이루도록 평화기념공원 축선 위에 배치되어 있다. 참가자는 세션과 세션 사이에 위령비와 원폭돔을 걸어서 오간다. 기념·위령 공간과 국제행사장을 같은 부지에 두는 선택이 도시의 메시지를 학회 참가자 전원에게 전달하는 장치로 작동한다.
공항 접근은 철도 연결이 없어 리무진버스에 의존하지만, 도심 안에서는 일본 최대 규모의 노면전차망이 학회장·숙소·상점가를 두세 정거장 안에 묶는다. 히로덴이 파는 8시간 승차권처럼 체류시간이 짧은 방문객을 겨냥한 요금상품도 함께 운용된다. 참가자의 하루 동선이 별도의 셔틀 없이 기존 대중교통망 위에서 처리된다는 점이 개최지 선택의 실질적 조건이었다.
옛 시민구장 터를 재편한 도심 공원에서 학회 환영 리셉션과 시민 본오도리가 같은 저녁에 병행되었다. 대형 유휴부지를 광장과 상업시설로 되돌린 결과가 국제행사와 지역 축제를 동시에 수용하는 밀도로 나타난다.
히로시마성터와 중앙공원은 원폭으로 완전히 소실된 뒤 재개발로 소진되지 않고 공원·문화시설의 골격으로 남았다. 성터·고코쿠신사·슈케이엔·현립미술관·히로시마미술관이 도보권에 모여, 도심 북측이 하나의 문화시설 집적지를 이룬다. 복원 천수각(1958년 콘크리트)과 니노마루 목조 복원(1989~1994년)이 같은 부지 안에 공존하는 것도 시기별 복원 철학의 기록이다.
폐막식이 끝난 저녁, 원폭돔 옆 오리즈루타워 12층에서 MapLibre 밋업이 무료로 열렸다. 컨벤션 홀을 벗어나 야경을 배경으로 발표를 듣는 구성이었고, 학술트랙 52편은 ISPRS Archives를 통해 오픈액세스로 영구 공개된다. 유료 등록 안쪽의 프로그램과 그 바깥의 커뮤니티 활동이 같은 도시 안에서 연속되는 것이 FOSS4G 운영의 특징이다.
